How to apply house style to Word Precedents downloaded form EF&P

There’s now an easy way to apply your firm’s house style to Word precedents downloaded from LexisLibrary. You can automatically apply all formatting from your firm’s template to the precedent. This eliminates the need to customise each precedent you download manually, saving precious time.  After the initial setup of your firm’s template, we can help you do it automatically. Full details are available at the top of the Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents contents list. Alternatively follow these steps:

1) Go to this address www1.lexisnexis.co.uk/efp-page/
2) Double-click on the link "Download MS Word Template" on the left-hand side of the screen and save the document to folder.
3) Then, open the template from its saved destination and customise the formatting of all styles to match your firm’s style.
4) Re-name and save the template.
5) Make the customised template available to users.

Then, when you save an EF&P or LexisPSL precedent and open it in Word:

1) Click on "Tools/Templates and Add-ins".
2) Click on "Attach" and navigate to the template you created and named as customised above.
3) Select the template and click on "Open".
4) Tick the box "Automatically update document styles".
5) Click on OK and your firm’s house style is then automatically applied from the template to the document, overriding the styling applied at document level.

Please note this will only work on style names contained in the UK DEG’s (Document Excellence Group's) template. Some of the EF&P precedents do not use the UK DEG style names, mainly where auto-renumbering functionality is not practical or the numbering scheme is defined by a third party like HMLR.

Brand new titles on LexisLibrary

We mentioned in last month’s e-burst we were launching some new tax sources in June (subscription dependent). They’re listed below as a reminder, together with three new legal sources:

Simon’s First-tier Tax Decisions

Full-text law reports of selected direct and indirect tax decisions from the Tax Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal.

First-tier Tribunal (Tax) Transcripts

Transcripts of every First-tier Tribunal decision that is released.

Costs Law Reports

These reports help ensure that you obtain what you and/or your client is entitled to - and that you maximise allowable costs, a critical part of profitable legal practice. Expertly selected and with the same succinct, authoritative head notes, Costs Law Reports now come out six times a year - ensuring critical cases in civil and criminal litigation are fully reported.

Restructuring: Law & Practice

The credit crunch and market volatility are driving an increase in restructurings. No other book covers the practical aspects of out-of-court restructurings, including the consensual arena, or looks at the law and practice in a sustained and systematic way. Howard and Hedger bring a coherent and comprehensive approach to the complex practice of restructuring in the UK and beyond. This book also benefits from detailed analysis of the directors’ duties aspects post-CA 2006, application of International Accounting Standards (IASs), going-concern issues and detailed coverage of rights issues.

Butterworths Financial Regulation Service Bulletin

This comprehensive work covers the general principles and rules of financial regulation and also focuses on specific types of regulated business. Written by a team of well-known authors comprising practising lawyers, regulators and academics, Butterworths Financial Regulation Service provides detailed, authoritative analysis and clear, practical guidance on the UK financial regulatory system.

More precedent sources on LexisLibrary

Further to last month’s new additions, we’re delighted to inform you of three new precedent sources.  We’ve updated and rebuilt the precedents contained in larger commentary sources and split them into separate sources to make them more useful and visible. The latest batch of new precedent sources are:

Schaw Miller & Bailey: Personal Insolvency Precedents
BWPAS Probate Precedents
Claims to the Possession of Land Property Precedents

Where these works are part of your subscription, you will see the new separated precedents listed in the Source Directory below the main work itself. This means that you can more easily search and browse these precedent collections, and that searches you run from the precedents search form on ‘All Subscribed Forms and Precedents Sources’ will return results from these titles as well.

You can find these new sources in the Source Directory, or by using the ‘Find a Source’ option in Quick Find - e.g. search for Schaw to bring back all Schaw sources including the precedents.

Reminder: Easier case searching and wider coverage

Don’t forget to add our new Judgments source to your Bookshelves. You can do this by clicking on the Add/remove/sort sources link under the “My Bookshelf” heading.  The Judgments source makes case searching easier and faster, and provides wider coverage whilst retaining the quality of our existing service. The most important cases will still be selected by our law reporters to digest for the All England Reporter service.
