Cook: Pharmaceuticals Biotechnology and the Law
Available on the Legal Library, Intellectual Property and Information Technology menus

Pharmaceuticals Biotechnology and the Law is the definitive guide to the law in Europe that relates to pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and their associated areas, such as medical devices.  Written by one of the UK’s leading patent and regulatory lawyers (Trevor Cook, Bird & Bird), this is the only text which comprehensively covers the wide variety of legal and regulatory issues surrounding these sectors.

The book examines the background to, and the impact of, the law affecting this area. It is primarily written from the perspective of European Community law, although where this is not harmonised, it is written from the perspective of English law.  Since publication of the first edition in 1991, virtually every regulatory framework addressed is completely new, or radically updated. Entire areas of law have since developed, such as regulatory data, which is accorded three chapters in the book. This field has also seen the introduction of the EPC 2000, the biotechnology directive and the maturing of biotechnology patenting, which was in its infancy at the time of the first edition. From these developments has come a raft of case law which is cross-referenced throughout.

White, Carr and Lowe: The Children Act in Practice
Available on the Legal Library, Family and Citizen Welfare menus

This is the best selling, one volume guide to the Children Act 1989. The Act is produced in full, helpfully annotated and comes with a detailed commentary, which considers the legislation as it operates today.

Building on the success of the Third edition, the new edition is brought fully up to date with all relevant legislative and case law developments since 2002. In addition, the work includes the following coverage:

  • The Adoption and Children Act 2002
  • The Children Act 2004
  • The Children and Adoption Act 2006
  • The Public Outline governing case management
  • The threshold criteria following the House of Lords decision in Re B (Children) (sexual abuse: standard of proof)

This text will prove invaluable to all those who deal with the day to day application of the legislation.

More precedent sources on LexisLibrary

We’ve updated and rebuilt two more sets of precedents found in our commentary titles this month:

Butterworths Law of Food & Drugs Precedents
Modern Law of Patents Precedents

Where these works are part of your subscription, you will see the new separated precedents listed in the directory, below the main work itself. This means that you can easily search and browse these precedent collections, and that searches you run on ‘All Subscribed Forms & Precedents Sources’ will return results from these titles as well.

You can find these new sources by using the ‘Find a Source’ option in Quick Find. For example, search for "Modern Law" to bring back the authoritative title as well as the precedents.

The Finance Act 2009 went live in full on Lexis Library with all associated Stop Press in under 24 hours of receiving Royal Assent on 21st July. Further to this, full consolidation of all the amended legislation was completed within two weeks, leaving our competitors trailing behind.  You know where to look first!

Our All England Commercial Cases series is 10 years old!

It reports maritime and shipping cases with broader coverage, in terms of conflict of laws, insurance and arbitration, than our competitors. All important shipping cases are reported.  Any shipping or maritime content that isn’t covered is otherwise available on the Judgements and/or the All England Reporter service.

The high standard of the All England brand is maintained by ALL our judgements and headnotes being read and approved by judges before publication, distinguishing them as a distinctly sound and reliable authority on maritime and shipping law.
