LexisNexis Butterworths in association with the HRLA will be hosting the opening Liberty Detention and Human Rights conference on Monday 7th December in central London. The discussion will be tackling a range of high-profile topics including the legal implications of detentions and issues relating to constraints on liberty, including stop and search powers and protest controls, all of which feature regularly in the headlines.
Featuring an illustrious panel of speakers, the event is a must-attend for solicitors and barristers practising in civil liberties law and prison law; in-house legal advisors working for the police, NHS trusts and local authorities; and anyone else who needs to get to grips with the latest developments in civil liberties law.

LexisNexis Butterworths is proud to announce it will be sponsoring the Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA) annual bursary scheme in 2010.
Established in 2006, the HRLA bursary scheme assists law students with limited financial resources to undertake internships, work placements and other paid or unpaid placements in human rights law.
Jonathan Cooper OBE, Chair HRLA Executive Committee said of the backing, "The HRLA is very grateful to LexisNexis Butterworths for their generous sponsorship of our bursary scheme. This means we can offer more bursaries to more students and lawyers starting out in their careers and give them the opportunity to take up internships that they would otherwise be unable to afford”
