LexisNexis has been running the Legal Intelligence Network since October 2008, with a focus on creating content for LexisPSL Property. The feedback has been so positive that LexisNexis is extending the existing network to other practice areas.

Two members, Jo and Ellie, share their experience of the network:

Joanna Bhatia

Joanna is a commercial property specialist. She has wide-ranging experience of all non-contentious property transactions, with a particular emphasis on landlord and tenant work.

Joanna qualified at Shoosmiths in 1995, moving to Nabarro in 2000. In 2005 she embarked on a career as a locum, which, to date, has included working at Charles Russell, Bircham Dyson Bell and Pemberton Greenish.

She is also a property law consultant and has been contributing to the development of LexisPSL since December 2008. She has authored materials on both general property matters such as options and pre-emption rights, energy performance, rights of way and land registry matters and landlord and tenant issues including repairs, commercial service charges, surrenders, alienation, break rights and vacant possession.

She has also contributed to the Butterworths Property Law Newsletter.

"Writing for them is intellectually stimulating. Also, having previously always been office-based, working from home gives me enhanced flexibility. I can choose when I work, planning around other commitments, whilst still ensuring that I meet deadlines. It has certainly added an interesting and fulfilling dimension to my career. I am confident that the opportunity to extend and deepen my legal knowledge, and the new contacts I have made through LexisNexis, leave me very well placed as I return to the jobs market."

Elinor Clark

Elinor worked as a transactional lawyer in London for nine years. She heard about the Legal Intelligence Network from someone she used to work with. Elinor is now enjoying writing practice notes for LexisNexis, applying her practical experience to the finer detail of the law.

"One of the major benefits of working on this project is being based at home. This means that I no longer spend two plus hours a day travelling. It also fits well around my childcare arrangements, other interests and responsibilities. I really enjoy the flexibility as, so long as the work gets done, I can do it at a time that suits me. I still have plenty of contact with those based in the office and so am not feeling isolated. Crucially, writing practice notes for LexisPSL has allowed me to apply my transactional experience and to rediscover the research skills that made me want to study law and qualify in the first place."
